Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems. The RN develops and implements an individualized plan of care and evaluates the patient's response. The RN promotes safe passage for patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients in their healthcare journey. The RN delegates interventions to healthcare personnel based on the nursing practice act, each patient's condition, and the competencies of the employee. The RN job is applicable for RNs in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with staffing available. Essential Functions of the Role: Clinical Judgment: Conducts accurate clinical assessments according to practice standards. Identifies and prioritizes patient and family needs. Develops, implements, and evaluates the nursing plan of care and modifies plans to meet clinical outcomes. Caring Practices: Creates a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment for patients and families. Develops therapeutic relationships and manages both emotional and physical pain. Response to Diversity: Recognizes and incorporates patients' and families' unique differences into an individualized plan of care. Advocacy and Moral Agency: Preserves and protects the confidentiality and rights of patients and families. Creates individualized plans that reflect patient and family values and goals. Facilitation of Learning: Facilitates learning for patients and families, nursing staff, and other healthcare team members. Collaboration: Works collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement an integrated plan of care. Systems Thinking: Uses strategies and resources for problem-solving for patients and staff.
